KEEPING OUR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN AND WASTE FREE- A BURDEN ON OUR CONSCIENCE
Sometime ago precisely on the 6th of
November, 2018, I was driving in Lagos along Lasu-Igando Road and was touched by the straying Waste Truck that has been packed
along the Road for over 4 days without any effort by the concerned
parties to remove it from the road, considering the attendant likelihood
of causing fatal accident and loss of life particularly in the
night when vehicles might mistakenly rammed into it. The not-too-long death
of one of the aspirant of a political party who died in a similar situation
along this road quickly comes to mind.
The poor management of our waste disposal is
causing serious negatives effects on Property Values and marketability of
properties where refuse dump is sited. The low property demands around
Igando General Hospital and its environs is as a result of rampant packing of
waste trucks that blocked the roads and emitting dangerous odours which discourages
any intended party that needs property around the area to be discourage to
look elsewhere, the same goes for Olusoson Dump site at Oregun, Ikeja.
An action I took which may have caused the removal
of the truck from the Road. What action you must be thinking. Right? On that
fateful day, I quickly alighted from my car as I could no longer tolerate seeing that truck being on that Expressway and knowing likelihood of causing
another death. I stood close to the Truck and took photograph shot of the truck
while moving around and people were watching me. I left the place praying that God will save commuters lives from being wasted by this truck.
To the glory of
God, in less than one hour that I was returning back from where I went to
inspect a property, I observed that that truck had been removed. Did I do anything that might
have cause the removal? Or it is a mere coincidence that the Truck was about to
be removed prior to my taking the pictures and moving around the truck?
Whichever is the case, it is truly a burden on our consciences to take action
no matter how insignificant it may seem because it may lead to a positive change.
